CAMIBAart Gallery presents “RACHEL KALISKY: Glassworks – The Unexpected”.  With this exhibit, Kalisky expands our notion of fused glass, its aesthetics, and how it can be used to create.  Defined by their materiality, the resulting artworks are also defined by their visual language, their form, and their scale.  These creations have breadth, allowing for contemplative moments that spur our imagination.

With time, the viewer will begin to see in the artworks a pattern of underlying repetitive geometries that interact with rigid organic shapes, and sometimes even abstracted silhouettes of human forms.  These formal relationships are accentuated by Kalisky’s use of color and texture.

Kalisky’s tying of abstracted geometry with organic forms is often reminiscent of the golden phase of Art Nouveau painter and illustrator Gustav Klimt – as if he returned from the grave 100 years later and began, in a more abstract manner, to work with glass instead.

In Rachel Kalisky’s own words: “I find each piece to be as much an exploration as it is an expression.  My passion for glass, and the need to design, makes it an ideal medium for me to express my fascination with form, color, light and textures.  Working with glass challenges me, it feeds my curiosity, stirs my emotions, and drives my need to design and my nature to create.”

Kalisky has exhibited since 2004 in cities around the country, including in Austin (TX), Corpus Christi (TX), Delray Beach (FL), Dallas (TX), Galveston (TX), Michigan City (IN), Philadelphia (PA), Pittsburgh (PA), Portland (OR), and Taos (NM).   These exhibits include numerous prestigious museums and galleries including Cornell Museum of Art in Florida, Art Museum of South Texas, and the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia.
