In geo+precision+space, CAMIBAart presents Rebecca Rothfus Harrell’s newest works created since her inspirational residency in Banff Canada last year.  With these artworks, Harrell continues her exploration of the geological spaces of her mind, rendering these visions with precision and exactness, layering in her subtle shading and rich color.  Intrigued and inspired by the works of the American Precisionist of the 1920’s and 30’s such as Peter Blume and Charles Demuth, Harrell adopts their approaches of dimensional simplification, time flattening, and selective realism, applying them in her own way to the organic geological environment of her imagination.  The resulting spaces fight the landscape label yet conjure up feelings of otherworldly terrain.

Rebecca Rothfus Harrell says of her work:

At their core, my paintings and collages are an exploration of form, color, structure and space, used to create feelings of surreal ‘foreign’ environments, bouncing back and forth between natural and man made. Dimensionality is simplified, and time is flattened, questioning if these fractured spaces exist or if they are stylized ruins of a time passed.

Rebecca Rothfus Harrell earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts (BFA) from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from Tufts University Boston.  Her work has been exhibited in a wide variety of locations including: Chicago, IL; Columbus, OH; Dallas, TX; Geelong, Australia; Houston, TX; Marfa, TX; Miami, FL; Milwaukee, WI; Nashville, TN; Philadelphia, PA; San Jose, CA; and of course Austin, TX.  In 2011 she completed a residency at Sparkbox in Ontario Canada and another in 2015 at the Banff Center in Alberta Canada.  CAMIBAart is proud to be the exclusive representative for Harrell in the Austin area.
